The Cartier Square Drill Hall, constructed in 1879, is a landmark at the heart of Ottawa’s city center. The drill hall is home to the Governor General’s Foot Guards, Cameron Highlanders of Ottawa and our cadet corps.
The Guards Cadet Company was founded by the late Major Harold V.E.G. Blackman, CD in September 1965. Our second Commanding Officer was Major Guy Fortier, CD; both of whom were former Regimental Sergeant Major of the affiliated unit. It was formed under the sponsorship of the Governor General’s Foot Guards Regiment and has continued to find its home with the regiment ever since.
